लोहरदगा जिले के भंडरा प्रखंड के कसपुर गांव में खेत खलिहान, पहाड़ों में शिवलिंग मिल जाते हैं। इस क्षेत्र को शिव की नगरी कहा जाता है। जाने कब कहां से शिवलिंग मिल जाए, यह कोई नहीं जानता। सदियों से यहां शिव की पूजा होती आई है। लोगों का मानना है कि कण-कण में यहां शिव का वास है। इस क्षेत्र को लोग शिव की नगरी कहते हैं। यह कभी शिव साधकों की प्रमुख स्थली रही होगी। आज भी यहां पर शिव नाम का ही जाप होता है। भंडरा गांव के कसपुर, भंडरा के खेत, खलिहान और पहाड़ों में भी शिवलिंग बिखरे पड़े हैं।

क्या है ऐतिहासिक महत्व

इतिहास के जानकार, खोजकर्ता और चतरा महाविद्यालय चतरा के सेवानिवृत प्राचार्य डा. इफ्तिखार आलम कहते हैं कि यह क्षेत्र शिव और शक्ति साधना का केंद्र रहा है। यहां प्राचीन काल से ही शिव की आराधना होती आई है। क्षेत्र भगवान हनुमान का ननिहाल भी है। यहां पाए जाने वाले शिवलिंग छठी और सातवीं शताब्दी के हैं। यहां का वातावरण साधना के लिए बहुत ही अनुकूल था

यही कारण था कि यहां पर शिव की साधना के प्रमाण हर स्थान पर मिलते हैं। इतिहास के जानकारों का कहना है कि लोहरदगा जिले के भंडरा प्रखंड में भगवान राम की माता कौशल्या के राज्य की राजधानी थी। भंडरा के कसपुर गांव में आज भी पुराने जमाने के किले के अवशेष व खेतों की जुताई में पुराने जमाने के सिक्के व बर्तनों के अवशेष मिलते हैं।
कसपुर गांव में भगवान शिव के साथ-साथ भगवान विष्णु के हिरण्यकश्यप अवतार की पत्थर में उकेरी प्रतिमा देखने को मिलती है। इसके साथ ही भंडरा के ऐतिहासिक अखिलेश्वर धाम का तीन फीट व नीले रंग के शिवलिंग शेष स्थानों पाए जाने वाले शिवलिंग से अलग है।
