#काशी का #मणिकर्णिका श्मशान घाट के बारे में मान्यता है कि यहां #चिता पर लेटने वाले को सीधे #मोक्ष मिलता है। दुनिया का ये इकलौता श्मशान जहां चिता की आग कभी ठंडी नहीं होती। जहां लाशों का आना और चिता का जलना कभी नहीं थमता। यहाँ पर एक दिन में करीब #300_शवों का अंतिम संस्कार होता है।

बहुत से लोग भारत की इस प्राचीन परंपरा से अनभिज्ञ हैं लेकिन ये सच है कि सदियों से बनारस के इस श्मशान घाट पर #चैत्र_माह में आने वाले नवरात्रों की सप्तमी की रात पैरों में घुंघरू बांधी हुई #वेश्याओं का जमावड़ा लगता है। एक तरफ #जलती_चिता_के_शोले आसमान में उड़ते हैं तो दूसरी ओर घुंघरू और तबले की आवाज पर नाचती वेश्याएं दिखाई देती हैं।

मौत के मातम के बीच श्मशान महोत्सव का रंग बदल देते हैं तबले की आवाज, घुंघरुओं का संगीत, और मदमस्त नाचती नगरवधुएं। जो व्यक्ति इस प्रथा से अनजान होगा उसके लिए यह मंजर बेहद हैरानी भरा हो सकता है कि रात के समय श्मशान भूमि पर इस जश्न का क्या औचित्य है?

#भगवान_भोलेनाथ को समर्पित, काशी को मोक्ष की नगरी कहा जाता है। यही वजह है कि वेश्याएं भी यहां नाच-नाचकर भोलेनाथ से यह प्रार्थना करती हैं कि उन्हें इस तुच्छ जीवन से मुक्ति मिले और अगले जन्म में वे भी समाज में सिर उठाकर जी सके।
